Spring is a time of newness and embracing nature waking up: animals that have been hibernating are coming out and plants are starting to bloom. With the freshness in the air and more sunlight, taking time to slow down and embrace the season needs intentionality. This is where our five senses come in. Noting what’s around you that represents spring in each sense can help you to slow down and relax.
See
Take note of things that are easily seen and challenge yourself to see smaller things. Take note of common items from a different perspective.
Sun: View the sun from various angles. Look at sunrise, sunset, and the sun during noon. Think about it differently by taking note of how the sun is reflecting on various items indoors or in nature.
Rain: Spring brings quite a bit of rain. Look at the clouds and how the rain falls on the street and grass.
Wildlife: This can be small bugs, birds, or squirrels. It can mean something bigger if you visit a zoo or farm.
Home: Look at an overall view of your home, then room by room.

Smell
Outside: Smell the dirt as you’re planting a garden, the rain when it’s coming down, or a bouquet of flowers.
Produce and plants: The combination of lemon and lavender is great. Make a simmer pot with fresh herbs and spices to fill your home with a beautiful aroma.

Hear
Go outside. There are many sounds: rain drops, birds chirping, wind, or even cars passing by.
Music: play your favorite music throughout the day. Play an instrument or take up lessons if you don’t already know how to play.
If you would prefer the sound of talking, listen to an audiobook, podcast, or your favorite Youtuber.

Taste
Crisp clean water. Sometimes we take for granted how accessible drinkable water is and the amount of options we have to choose from. Take a moment and savor your water. Incorporate seasonal produce in your meals.

Touch/Feel
Think outside of the box a little with this one. Mental clarity is something that is felt. Take time to relax and breathe. Feel the ground on your feet. That could be grass, a sidewalk, or sand at the beach. Touch through crafts. Try finger painting or pottery.
