21 Ways to Upgrade Your Solo Dates

Solo dates are an intentional way to do something fun and exciting for yourself. They are a great way to recharge and could even be a way of self reflection. Set aside time to be intentional with yourself. This could be something small on a weekly basis or a larger activity on a monthly basis.

This list has multiple categories of items to choose from. For a complete day, you could choose items from multiple categories. If you’re limited on time, choose one or two items. 

Reading Focused 

Reading is a pastime that many have enjoyed since childhood or maybe you’ve just picked up the hobby. Either way, sometimes it can become a challenge to find time to read when life becomes busy. These activities are reading focused. Grab your favorite drink or snack and 

  • Library- Choose a book from a genre you don’t read often for something different. Some libraries have reading clubs or other activities you can join. 
  • Bookstore- Browse through the different sections of a bookstore, including trinkets and gifts and see which items speak to you (note: you don’t have to buy), sit and read a book while people-watching. 
  • Book in park- On a nice day, go to the park to read with the sounds of nature as your background.

Self Care

Who doesn’t love a self care day. Technically, all of the items on the list for a solo date could be considered “self care;” however, these are the more traditional items. 

  • Spa Day- Make an appointment at your favorite spa and get a message.
  • Nails- There are options here. Book an appointment with your favorite nail tech or for the DIY girls. Get the tools needed for an at home mani pedi and enjoy time to yourself. 
  • Esthetician- Sometimes a full spa isn’t needed but rather face-only treatment. Get a facial or address any concerns that have been bothering you. 

Adventure

Get out of your norm by doing something a little adventurous. This can be small like a day at the farmers market or a full blown indoor rock climbing session. 

  • Scavenger Hunt- Go through a scavenger hunt through your city or a social scavenger hunt. 
  • Thrifting- Find a new thrift store to visit or visit a home vintage shop to redecorate. 
  • Game location- Go to a location that has in person games. This could be an escape room, a place like Dave and Busters or simply bowling.  

Food

We all have to eat, so why not make a solo date out of it. There are many routes this can go. There are even options for those of you who don’t consider yourselves foodies or at-home chefs. 

  • Cook a new recipe- Cook one of those recipes you’ve saved from social media but haven’t cooked yet. 
  • Bake something- Whether you’re good at baking or not, this is an excellent time to work that muscle. 
  • New restaurant- Try a restaurant in your area that you haven’t tried before. 

Fitness

For some, getting in a workout could be a part of your daily routine and that’s great. You could use this opportunity to try a new workout. If you’re new to this, it’s a great time to find a way to stay active while having fun. 

  • Walk around your neighborhood- It’s surprising the things that you notice around your neighborhood when you’re walking instead of driving. This can be a new experience even if you’ve lived in the same neighborhood for years. 
  • Hike a nature trail- Find a local trail, it could be a simple walking path or a hike on a mountain. 
  • Dance class- Having two left feet is no reason to skip this. There are drop in adult dance classes in many areas. Try it. Dance is a fun way to let your body free. 

Craft

Craft has many different ways to be expressed and it has been proven to help mentally and emotionally. Choose a way that you have the time and resources for your solo date. 

  • Pottery class: Molding and shaping clay into something useful is transforming experience. Find a local class and get your hands ready. 
  • Girlhood favorites: Go back to childhood with these options. Choose something that tween you loved or wished to do but didn’t have the opportunity to. This can include beaded jewelry or friendship bracelets 
  • Coloring pages: Adult coloring pages are really popular right now. There are books to buy or print out that are free online. Grab some crayons and have at it. Feel free to color inside or outside the lines. 

Mental Exercise

Completing activities that exercise your mind are great solo date ideas. 

  • Jigsaw puzzle- Completing a thousand piece puzzle may take longer than your solo date, but this is an excellent time to start and create a beautiful image. 
  • Sudoku- The number puzzle is beginner friendly and simple to find online versions or book versions. 
  • Crossword- A mental game that has spanned generations, crosswords are the classic brain exercise.
