The journey of finding a non-fiction work that I enjoy has been interesting to say the least as this is not my typical genre.
When it comes to reading, I’m mostly a listener. I prefer to listen to books because I can do that while doing other things such as driving, cooking, sewing, or working out. Yes, I listen to books while working out.
I’ve mostly focused on non-fiction books, specifically self help or Christian lifestyle.
Lately, I’ve been interested in dabbling in non-fiction. Now, I must admit that part of this is due to indirect peer pressure. I see a lot of book reviews and book talk on social media pages I follow.
Out of all of the things that social media can influence us on, growing further into a reading hobby is one of the good ones.
The One
The first fiction work I read in a long time was American Queen by Vanessa Miller. I saw this book recommendation from someone I follow on Instagram, Jasmine L. Holmes.
I truly enjoyed it. It was historical fiction based on a true story. I will give a more formal review later.

But, I read that book last fall and have not found a novel that I’ve enjoyed as much since.
Generally, I love romcoms when watching movies, so I would like to stick with that general genre when reading as well. I would enjoy more historical fiction, but I don’t want to always read that because there are aspects that can become heavy and this is meant to be light and fun.
I’ve started a few books this year, but they were not that great. Some I finished for the sake of finishing, but others, I stopped.
I’m not going to force it, though. If I prefer non-fiction works, then that’s okay. I will continue reading novels until I find one that I enjoy. One that doesn’t seem like a chore to finish. I won’t rush this process.
